The most anticipated books of fall 2024

As the coziest season of the year approaches, we’re eagerly awaiting a fresh stack of new releases to hunker down with. Here are some of the books we’re looking forward to this fall:

  • Madwoman. Clove, the protagonist of Chelsea Bieker’s second novel, has told everyone that her parents died when she was 17. In actuality, her mother Alma is serving time for killing Clove’s abusive father. Will the truth set both of these women free? Read more.

  • We’re Alone. Across eight intimate essays, award-winning author Edwidge Danticat tackles her Haitian roots, the COVID-19 pandemic, and America’s societal woes. Read more.

  • Small Rain. In Garth Greenwell’s novel about what it really means to be alive, a poet must navigate the dysfunctional American health care system to find the root of his mysterious pain. Read more.

Watching

  • English Teacher. While comedy series tend to take a season or two to find a rhythm—and this one certainly has room for improvement—English Teacher radiates confidence from the very beginning. Read more.

  • Strange Darling. This cat-and-mouse thriller, centered on the final day of an elusive serial killer's years-long rampage, is designed to flip viewers' expectations on their head. We break down the ending here (spoilers ahead).

  • Beetlejuice Beetlejuice. After a string of disappointments, Tim Burton has shaken loose again with his return to the story he introduced in his 1988 cracked pop masterpiece. Read our review.
